Launch of Time Bank Small Grants Programme

08/12/2011

A two-part information session for those who have an interest in developing a Timebank will take place in the North West Volunteer Centre, Bishop Street on Wednesday December 14th.

A Timebank is a community based project that measures and rewards the efforts that people make in their community by sharing their skills. Participants ‘deposit;’ their time in a bank by giving practical help and support to others and are able to ‘withdraw’ their time when they need something done themselves. The overall aim of the session will be to give participants the confidence to start up a Timebank.  It will also focus on the essential skills for becoming a ‘Timebroker’.  A ‘Timebroker’ is a person who runs the Timebank and connects people locally.  The Timebroker can be paid or a volunteer, be connected to an organisation or be completely volunteer led.

Over lunch the Small Grants Programme will be launched with an information and Q&A session for groups and organisations that are interested in applying for a seed grant to support or develop a Timebank that primarily supports and involves older people to enable them take the lead in making a positive and lasting change in their community.
