The Chinese community is Northern Ireland’s largest and oldest minority ethnic group. Chinese immigrants arrived in the 1960s, mainly from Hong Kong, and today there are over 13,000 Chinese people – including students – living in NI. Chinese New Year is the biggest celebration in the Chinese calendar. For City of Culture 2013, there will be a week-long celebration of Chinese culture across the city to mark Chinese New Year, ‘The Year of The Snake’.
