Playhouse patron Field Day Theatre Co., which was founded in Derry in 1980 by playwright Brian Friel and actor Stephen Rea, is returning to the city after a long absence to premiere ‘Farewell’, a new short play by the young, up-and-coming Antrim writer Clare Dwyer Hogg.
Rea will direct and perform in the production in December this year as a prelude to further Field Day activities promised for Derry City of Culture 2013. Dwyer Hogg, who is also a journalist with the Independent, is an exciting new prospect.
In this play, she writes in a clear and sparse style and pitches her voice to a contemporary local audience while addressing universal themes-in this instance death and betrayal.
