The History of Derry in 100 Objects

The task of collecting, preserving and making publicly accessible collections of intrinsic value is important for the city’s memory bank. It was with these thoughts in mind that Derry City Council’s Heritage and Museum Service has created this new exhibition exploring the history of our city through objects suggested by the public.

Many of the objects selected for the exhibition are what many will see as traditional museum objects, objects that have stood the test of time, chance discoveries, rare and celebrated objects, such as the Thornhill bead and the Promise Chalice. Many of these items selected themselves, iconic and precious.

Other more contemporary objects tell the story of our more recent past and the people who have shaped it.
